About Words4Nerds...

Words4Nerds is located on the west coast of Canada, in Victoria, British Columbia. Victoria is nicknamed "The Garden City" and has the mildest climate in the country. Surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, it's a truly inspiring place to live and work.

Words4Nerds is one person -- me, Tanja Rosteck -- with occasional assistance from a network of experienced and trusted communication professionals. I'm the owner, office administrator, marketing/sales guru, webmistress, project manager, customer service rep, writer/editor, and all-around gopher.

My credentials include:

  • Novell CNA 5 certification (Certified NetWare Administrator).
  • BrainBench -- certification in Written English at the Master Level (scored higher than 97% of all previous test takers).
  • Concordia University, Montreal, Canada -- Four-year BA degree, Honours in Sociology (concentration on technology and society).
  • Several years of technical support management experience (both internal and external support).
  • Extensive professional experience in technical writing, IT services delivery, training, web technologies, networking and security, and hands-on tech support.
  • Avid computer user since 1984, when monitors were amber (or cyan or green, your choice) and the BBS was king.

Some of my articles...

I occasionally write and publish articles about documentation, customer support, and business administration topics. You can find my articles at sites such as:

My 1994 honours thesis on hacker culture has been widely published on the Internet, translated into several languages, and cited in other academic works. Read it at the Electronic Frontier Foundation website.

Why do I specialize in documenting software products?

Playing around with software is not only my job, but a fun hobby too!

I've spent countless hours over the years helping others use software -- both personally and professionally -- and it's obvious to me that if a product has good documentation, the need for tech support is greatly reduced. Simply put, documentation is the bridge between the customer and your company.

Our solutions make instructions clear, procedures simple, and your software easy to use and troubleshoot.
